Alternate Routes to avoid congestion on Travis Street

Travis is a primary artery to reach I-45 north and the I-45 North HOV  lane. While lanes are closed on Travis many drivers will find the other  routes to I-45 North quicker. Those other routes are described below.

Alternate to reach the I-45 North HOV
Take Louisiana north and as you go past the Alley Theater and Jones  Hall move into the left lane. That lane becomes a ramp to the HOV lane and merges with the HOV lane from Travis Street.

Alternates to reach I-45 North There are many ways other than Travis to reach I-45 North from downtown and all of them avoid the area of Travis where three lanes will be closed beginning Monday, July 19, 2004.

1. If you are in the area north of Walker (toward Buffalo Bayou) then  you can continue to use Travis or take Walker and follow the signs to  the ramp to I-45 North.

2. If you are in the area south of Walker then you can:

a. Take Louisiana or San Jacinto to Walker and follow the signs to the ramp to I-45 North. Move to the left lane as you go approach City Hall.

b. Take Milam, Fannin, or Caroline to Pease or St. Joseph Parkway and  turn right. Follow the signs to I-45 North.

c. Take Franklin, Texas, Rusk, Leeland or Jefferson to Chartres and  turn left. Chartres becomes a ramp to I-10. Follow the signs to I-10  West and then follow the signs to I-45 North.
