Update for January 20, 2006 (including closures and special events and
offers)
Hello, This is the weekly email from the Houston Downtown Management
District with a summary of street closures approved by the City of Houston
for downtown due to construction, building maintenance or special events.
The closures cited below are as approved this afternoon.
This email does not list all special events in downtown--only those
that close lanes or have a major impact on mobility in the streets and
sidewalks. Please distribute this information in your building or organization
so people can know before they go.
Short-term closures this weekend for construction or maintenance -
NONE
Long-term Closure for Building Construction - Harris
County is extending their tunnel system to connect their new building
to the new parking garage. The street closure is for one (1) block of
Austin Street between Franklin and Congress. Austin is a northbound
street so if you want to avoid the closure use Crawford or San Jacinto.
Note that this closure is in the Harris County area in the north end
of downtown and the only streets you will not be able to reach using
Austin is Franklin and Commerce.
Closures for a Special Event - Saturday morning, 1/21/06, from
6 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. the Fund for Teachers Fun Run is held. The run
starts and ends at Sam Houston Park. It leaves the park going west on
Allen Parkway, U-turns at Waugh Dr. and back to downtown on Allen Parkway,
left on Bagby and left on Lamar to end. Use Dallas or Memorial as alternates.
Remember to bookmark www.HoustonDowntown.com
for more information about downtown. The weather will be great for all
events. Downtown is again the place to be.
